PROJECT 02
In this case, too, humans are at the end of the food chain
Over time, the plastic is ground down by the sea - especially in coastal areas. But the salt water and sunlight also decomposes the plastic. However, some plastic is said to have survived for more than 400 years. So there are many factors that are decisive here. (Image source: Wikipedia)
Small pieces of plastic are still dangerous for fish and marine life and accumulate in the digestive tract. Likewise with birds that hunt fish. One might think that microplastics are therefore far less dangerous. Is that so? A recently published study shows that plastic is no longer harmful to animals and humans. However, the study only lasted a few weeks.
